Randy Grskovic is constructing a database. It is not linear. Or particularly organized. Perhaps it is not even functional.
Reoccurring Themes takes up the idea of (dys)function and Grskovic’s interest in functionality or the lack of it. What happens to objects, images and ideas when they are removed from their original purpose or context? And, how can new and productive spaces be explored by this confusion? The images for this series have been carefully collected and curated to investigate these questions. They have been precisely cut, arranged, layered and pasted and reorganized from linear histories into contemporary somethings that aren’t so readily readable.
Randy Grskovic works with fragments, from books, magazines or other ephemera, to create new narratives. His work often focuses on the intrinsic themes of the social, human experience: Money, Sex, Love, Power and a little Faith.
Randy Grskovic has a BFA from the University of British Columbia. His work has been exhibited at Centre A in Vancouver, The Alternator Gallery for Contemporary Art in Kelowna, L’OEil de Poisson in Quebec City, Eastern Edge in St. John’s and he was invited to curate a program for Vtape in Toronto. Currently, Grskovic resides in Vancouver and works out of Cutty Studios.
